The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management
(EM) is responsible for the remediation of approximately 100-million gallons of highly radioactive legacy waste from governmental nuclear weapons programs. This waste is located in storage tanks at numerous high-level waste sites throughout the DOE complex. In 1994,
EM created the Tanks Focus Area to manage an integrated science and technology development program aimed at helping the DOE sites accomplish their tank remediation goals. This program involves a team of site users, contractors, national laboratories, technical advisors, and technology developers and producers working together in support of user needs. The complexity of the program requires close communication and reporting to ensure successful development and delivery of technical solutions that enable tank remediation to succeed. Reports generated to assist with program management
or cut across several functional areas are contained in the TTG website under "Other".
Both documents and photos related to Other are
available from TTG database.
