Closure

Closure is needed to complete the remediation of the underground radioactive waste storage tanks. This consists of determining the acceptance criteria that meets regulator approval, and stakeholder agreement that the tanks can be closed. Acceptance criteria are critical to the entire remediation process; these criteria will help determine what technologies will perform well enough to meet the closure requirements. In addition, closure includes the refinement of the scientific and technical bases to ensure:

  1. the stabilization of tanks and tank farms during waste storage and disposal operations, and
  2. effective tank farm closure for final system remediation.
